The Obidient Movement has dismissed reports suggesting that it is experiencing internal divisions, describing such claims as false and deliberately orchestrated attempts to undermine its growing influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesman of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Ibrahim Umar, the movement maintained that it remains united and firmly committed to the ideals and governance principles championed by the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
According to Umar, what some observers have interpreted as cracks within the movement is actually the natural evolution of a broad-based, citizen-driven coalition that operates outside the conventional structures of political organizations.
“The Obidient Movement is not a traditional political organization with a rigid hierarchy. It is a movement built on shared values of accountability, economic progress, fairness, and competent leadership as exemplified by Peter Obi,” the statement said.
He explained that the movement’s decentralized structure is one of its greatest strengths, allowing supporters and affiliated civic groups across the country to pursue various strategies while remaining united by a common vision of national transformation.
“The movement embodies an idea of governance anchored on accountability and responsible leadership. Different groups may adopt different approaches, but they remain united in their pursuit of a New Nigeria,” Umar stated.
The spokesman further argued that the absence of a centralized leadership structure protects the movement from external influence and political compromise, ensuring that its objectives remain aligned with the aspirations of millions of Nigerians.
He stressed that the Obidient Movement belongs to the people rather than any individual or political elite, adding that its commitment to ending transactional politics and promoting good governance remains unwavering.
“There is no division whatsoever regarding our fundamental objectives. The movement remains focused on advancing the socio-economic liberation of Nigeria and building a nation founded on transparency, justice, and accountability,” he said.
Umar called on supporters within Nigeria and across the diaspora to ignore what he described as coordinated misinformation campaigns aimed at creating the impression of discord within the movement.
“We urge the public and our vast network of organic supporters globally to disregard these distractions. The Obidient Movement is united, vigilant, and steadfast in its commitment to achieving a better Nigeria,” the statement added.
The Obidient Movement emerged during the 2023 general elections as a grassroots political movement supporting Peter Obi’s presidential bid and has since evolved into a broad civic platform advocating reforms in governance, economic management, accountability, and citizen participation in the democratic process.
